May 6, 2021 – 10am Pacific time (PDT) / 6pm London time (BST)
Please join us for a special meeting hosted by the International Council for Online Dispute Resolution (ICODR) with Lord Michael Briggs and Master Victoria McCloud, facilitated by Amir Ali. The conversation will focus on the latest developments in the UK’s court modernization project and the role of ODR in the future of the UK’s civil justice system.
Lord Briggs was called to the bar at Lincoln’s Inn in 1978 and was the Junior Counsel to Crown Chancery from 1990-94. He became a Queen’s Counsel in 1994. He was made a Bencher of Lincoln’s Inn in 2001, and was appointed Attorney General of the Duchy of Lancaster in July of that year. He held the post until shortly after his appointment to the High Court. Lord Briggs was appointed as the Judge in charge of the Chancery Modernisation Review in 2013. The report was finally published in 2016 and came to be referred to as the “Briggs’ Report.” Part of those recommendations included proposals for a new online court to try and create a more affordable dispute resolution procedure.
Master Victoria McCloud, a British judge, became the youngest Master in the High Court of England and Wales when she was appointed in 2006 as a deputy and then as a full judge in 2010. She is also a chartered psychologist and legal author. The Master was recently appointed by Sir Geoffrey Vos (the New Master of the Rolls) to the Civil Justice Council (CJC) Working Group on Pre Action Protocols together with the Committee on Law and AI. A selection of her publications is available here.
Amir Ali served as Chairman of the Civil Court Users Association (CCUA) for 5 years from 2015 to 2020. He was recently appointed the inaugural President of The Professional Paralegal Register (The PPR). He is also the Vice President at Resolve Disputes Online.
